Missourian Coverage of MU hit and miss

Three articles on the Second Front page 8A from Friday feature stories relating to MU. Unfortunately they weren’t given very good detail and space for fleshing out.

1) Roomy Reactor…This article while quite intriguing because of the $1.2 million cost and lack of useage as implied in the story is a little premature. It is a series of four interviews about the Reactor Field parking lot not getting much use. One major element that is missing is information about the lot itself, what areas of campus is serves and the like. Three of the interviews are from students talking about either that lot or the other commuter lots.

2) MU Breaks ground on journalism institute…My first problem with this story is the photo and cutline, the story makes Dean Mills look qite frightening! His expression is one of anguish as if being questioned by a tough Missourian reporter doing an expose… only, he’s talking to two un-named facutly members. So beside the fact that when shooting digital as I’m sure the reporter did there isn’t really any reason to not be able to pick out a photo that puts the subject in a funky position, unless warranted or fitting to the story I suppose. Secondly, there is only one quote in the whole story, and it is the very last paragraph. I would be willing to bet that there were plenty of people there who would be willing to talk about the Reynold’s Intsitute, Surely the reporter could have found faculty, or university/UM system administration who could comment.

…While I would love to continue this evening with more articles, due to time constraints It will just have to wait! Stay tuned for more Missourian!

The picture of Dean Dean was indeed frightening, to say the least.
