So Many Names and details….

http://columbiamissourian.com/news/story.php?ID=17118 Robbery leads to murder and two kids go to jail. that is one hell of a day in Mexico. Pretty standard issue trial story, i would think the issue would be more that it has shaken up the town or something. Trial details are just that details and trivial to a lot of people. Maybe i am just not interested in the story all that much.
Reliving History Reliving Thought

http://columbiamissourian.com/news/story.php?ID=17115 The reliving history story from Thursday is not a bad take on an event that probably means a lot to the community of fulton. While fulton is certainly within our local spread I think that it doesn’t do a very good job of localizing and bringing in a skeptical reader.
Wal~Mart Woes

http://columbiamissourian.com/news/story.php?ID=%2017061 We are def a Wal~Mart town and this movie i’m sure will be highly regarded among the fervent anti-walmart crowd here as well. I prefer not to shop at Walmart as well, but gosh darn those low low prices, you just can’t beat ‘em. So when I have a little extra cash I shop somewhere else but some of the time I find myself purchasing from my real “Uncle Sam”, Uncle Sam Walton that is, I don’t think that there is a more American man than Sam Walton, at least in the current times anyway.
This story reaks of extremely biased sources, all of which came from the same place at the same time, (and even the same Mizzou academic unit) A little diversity in opinion would go a long way with this piece. Sure the views expressed i’m sure reflect those that went to see the film but it sounds just like a wal~mart bashing story than anything.
I could be wrong, but I like to think I’m right.
Election Coverage Tag Team Style

http://columbiamissourian.com/news/story.php?ID=16963 The Missourian’s coverage of today’s voting has been pretty good so far and this wrap-up story was a good way to end coverage before the big charts and fancy graphics that I hope to wake up to in the morning. It seems to me, and maybe this is reporter’s bias and maybe this is just the public’s view but most of the comments from all the Columbian Media has been negative, perhaps this is a turning point for columbia. In a town filled with hippies and Tree Huggers the elders are speaking up and out…Maybe this is a good thing, to be more fiscally conservative for a while after all the spending the last few years. Only time will tell.
Just freakin’ hire a scientist would ya?

http://www.columbiamissourian.com/news/story.php?ID=16962 There must be a lot more to this story than what is being presented here. It talks about how this proposal has been on the table for 10 years and they’re still fighting over a new development. A plan doesn’t just sit on the table due to disputes over rain-water and flooding. If that were the case someone would have hired an engineer or a scientist to figure out the problem. Come on, dig a little deeper would ya?
Libraries are still nice

http://www.columbiamissourian.com/news/story.php?ID=16961 Nice little story with some original reporting from state offficials on the whole 65% of school’s money must go to “classroom instruction”, which is completely rediculous if you ask me. Let the darned schools handle their own business. If there is a district that is really bad, have DESE sanction them or something but don’t tell them how to spend the pennies that the State is giving to education right now. With as little support education has gotten from the current state government they shouldn’t be trying to restrict where that money is going at this point.
Farewell Facebook

I doubt that too many college students will take a story like this seriously but it brings to light the discussion we had in class a couple of weeks ago about Facebook and privacy issues. I feel like the story is a little all over the place, it goes from privacy, to employers using it, to sororities, then back again to privacy. It really isn’t all that bad of a story and it is probably about time the Missourian got on the Facebook bandwagon. It has been national news for quite some time now but the privacy issues are new I suppose.
