Groundswell (Incorporating Charlene Li’s Blog): Facebook Flyer test resultsWell folks, don’t say I didn’t warn you, but despite the PR out there about Facebook, it is NOT a marketplace. This blog post from Charlene Li’s blog points this out and several other facts about using Facebook to market a product or service… you really can’t.There are some very serious limitations in place in the ‘platform’ that Facebook so ardently pushes, those limitations however are also the reason why Facebook is not what they claim to be. It’s not a platform, it’s not a marketplace, and it’s not going to be without some serious poking and prodding and paradigm change. They preach the ‘do no evil’ ideals of Google but they don’t follow them. Facebook is an entirely closed system in terms of marketplace viability. They lock your applications into their small custom framework, don’t allow you take your work elsewhere, don’t let you advertise directly. About the only benefit you can get from Facebook applications and their ‘platform’ is branding and reach, but even then… good luck getting users off of Facebook and onto your site, it just ain’t happening!
