With the release (kind of) of Google’s mobile platform otherwise known as Android, I think we’ll soon see a really big push to the mobile. Not that it hasn’t already been happening but the writing on the walls is pointing toward what us social-media types are hoping for, an open-mobile platform and carrier/handset combo.
If anyone has the pull and sway for open-mobile to work, it probably is going to be Google. Certainly it’s going to take someone with a lot of cash, and a lot of power in the online world to make the revolution happen.
Wireless carriers in the US have been commoditized down already, I think it’s only a short path to being more like the EU with their unlocked handsets that aren’t subsidized down to free like they are here.
On a similar note, I keep hearing of friends who are on their 3rd and 4th MotoRazr, what’s this tell you about how the subsidized down to free mobile system does to QA?
More soon as I begin building my first apps to take advantage of OpenSocial and Android.
(And I haven’t given up yet on AIR/FlashLite, I just can’t start on that until I can access and mess with those apps on my iPhone.)
