4 News Companies Ally to Sell Ads on the Internet - New York Times
Gannett, Tribune, Hearst, and the New York Times company are joining forces to try to sell more advertising. And it couldn’t have come at a better time. This was release about two weeks ago but I didn’t get a chance to read into it further until now.
Basically, they’ve joined forces through a company called QuadrantONE which is providing a Google AdSense-ish experience where an advertiser can contact them, and place ads in news properties of each of those companies.
The focus of the agency is on local ads only, presumably to not step on the toes of the sales people at those organizations who acquire and foster the large national contracts.

Recent Facebook Application Launches
February 28, 2008 by Jonathan · Leave a Comment
I recently launched several Facebook applications and thought I’d share them with you. All of them are essentially the same application with different content, they parse RSS feeds from blogs and newsrooms that I work with.
While these aren’t examples of huge viral applications, they have been gaining viewers and interactions day by day. (I might also add that these are in a sort of perpetual beta until further notice

remarkable communication: The Ten Commandments of New Social Media
I highly suggest you take a look at this recent post over at Remarkable Communication. He outlines ten very useful commandments for participating in social media.
His commandments:
- Participate in the coversation
- Do Not Lie
- Do Not Astroturf
- Talk like a human being
- Remember the community
- Don’t be a wimp
- Do not Snivel
- Write what is worth reading
- Don’t talk about what you don’t know
- Have a sense of humor
Wow, that’s quite a list and I tend to agree with each and every one of them. In fact, it reads almost like the text from Principals of American Journalism back in my early years at the Journalism School.
Those commandments of social media sound just like what it takes to be an honest, fair, and tought Journalist (just like in Jschool, that’s Journalist with a big J to support Big J journalism. Does that make sense to anyone who hasn’t gone to Journalism School?).
The only thing I might question would be astroturfing, not that I support it, it’s a ridiculous practice, but do people still participate a lot?

How To Make A Million Before You Turn 20 - Forbes.com
(Via Forbes.)
This fascinating article talks briefly about 5 people 20 years old or younger who’ve already made their Million+. This is just amazing and it goes to show the kind of intelligent and entrepreneurial people we have in this world. It’s truly amazing.
Now I like to think of myself as pretty entrepreneurial, I’ve started more ‘companies’ than I care to remember. The remnants of a few are located on this site through the various old sites and publications I have posted in my portfolio.
This drive to achieve and create something though speaks to a higher calling and a higher level of thinking. Lots of people have ideas, but these kids actually went out and achieved.
No amount of technology can ensure that you actually achieve, that takes something special.
