Product Development & Leadership Experience
Associate product manager, PBS – May 2008-Current
In my role as social media product manager at PBS I manage the roadmap, lifecycle and development of products and services meant to engage users across the web. PBS’ social product portfolio is used on PBS.org, by hundreds of local member stations across the country, and well as by many independent show and film producers.
In creating the strategy, and later fulfilling the tactics of a holistic engagement strategy for PBS I have had the pleasure of leading a small team comprised of both internal and external project management, and engineering professionals.
Platforms, products, and business lines currently in my portfolio
- UGC collection and curation tools
- Widget platform and widget builder tool
- Online identity platform
- Commenting services
- Social network sharing services
- Newsletter services
- Internal collaboration and product/project management toolset
2010
- Co-founded “Public Media Chat” a weekly Twitter-based collaboration effort meant to bring together web practitioners from across the public media (PBS, NPR, etc) ecosystem. More information at http://www.pubmediachat.org
- Launched a comprehensive widget platform designed to easily syndicate PBS content to anywhere on the web. In the first six months widgets built using this platform were viewed virally nearly 7 million times.
- Brokered national deals to bring a best of breed commenting service, widget distribution and analytics service, and social network sharing service to PBS.org, PBS member stations and programs.
- Planned and executed, in conjunction with a technical lead, on a new internal collaboration and product/project management toolset, currently being used to plan and build all PBS interactive products. This toolset was required to be both flexible and powerful, allowing users and stakeholders to effectively complete their projects in an efficient manner while allowing them the freedom to use the tools however they saw fit.
2009
- Co-founded “Public Media Camp”, an un-conference to spur public/private partnerships and volunteerism for PBS local stations More information at http://www.publicmediacamp.org
- Successfully launched a re-architected OpenID based online identity platform empowering PBS.org, local member stations, and independent content producers to streamline and share user information while maintaining the trust of users.
- Implemented a strategy to market PBS national content in social networks and through a series of content efforts and partner development, took the national @pbs Twitter account from 5,000 followers to 500,000 in one year.
- Maintain relationships with major social network traffic sources including Twitter and Facebook
